Thermos question

I want some opinions here or maybe facts! How does a Thermos keep things both hot and cold??

I read something on the internet that said that a thermos has a double wall with air in-between. It creates a vacuum which doesn't allow any heat to escape. It keeps things cold in a similar way, by not allowing heat to enter. I actually didn't know either until I looked it up!
